youngify – verbo

youngification – sostantivo

It was very important for Martin Scorsese that youngifying the actors would not require them to wear helmets or other facial gear for their performances.

The 2008 film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button featured a youngified (and oldified) Brad Pitt.

youngify – verb

youngification – noun

It was very important for Martin Scorsese that youngifying the actors would not require them to wear helmets or other facial gear for their performances.

The 2008 film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button featured a youngified (and oldified) Brad Pitt.

In Martin Scorsese’s new film The Irishman, veteran actors Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci appear as characters several decades younger than themselves. Thanks to ‘de-aging’ technology developed by a visual effects company called Industrial Light & Magic the actors were able to play themselves throughout a film that takes place over a time span of more than 50 years. The scenes requiring the actors to be youngified were shot with a three-camera device that, thanks to advances in technology, was light enough not to impede the work of the director or the actors. Although youngification technology has been around for some years, the results before now have been patchy at best. Improvements in the technology open up cinematic possibilities that will undoubtedly be fully explored as it develops further, as well as extending the careers of older actors far beyond what was previously possible. It remains to be seen what younger actors trying to make their way in the profession will think of that.

Origin

The verb youngify was recorded as long ago as 2008. It was coined along the model of similar verbs like beautify and uglify. Youngification is so recent that in the few cases where it is used, it is generally placed in quote marks to indicate its newness.
