Il selfie ha dato origine a tutta una serie di varianti, dal belfie (il selfie del fondoschiena, reso famoso da Kim Kardashian), al legsie (quello delle gambe, di solito fatto in vacanza allo scopo di sfoggiare la tintarella) e all’helfie (il selfie dei capelli). Leggermente diverso è lo shelfie, nato per mostrare il contenuto di scaffali, mensole o librerie, generalmente senza la presenza umana nella foto. Gli shelfie sono spesso una forma di esibizionismo che ha per oggetto non il proprio corpo o viso ma le cose che si possiedono e il locale in cui si trovano, accuratamente arredato. Oltre i libri, soggetto degli shelfie originali, gli oggetti immortalati sono i più vari: ninnoli, foto, piante, prodotti di bellezza, utensili di cucina ecc. – in pratica qualsiasi cosa in bella mostra su scaffali e/o mensole da fotografare con cura e postare sui social: solo su Instagram ci sono oggi quasi 2 milioni di #shelfie. E naturalmente sono anche disponibili manuali che spiegano come fare lo shelfie perfetto.

You can determine a lot from someone’s skincare shelfie — from their skin concerns/difficulties to their personality.
The selfie has spawned all manner of variants including the belfie (a photo of your own bottom, popularized by reality superstar Kim Kardashian), the legsie (a photo of your legs taken on holiday, to show off your suntan), and the helfie (a photo of your hair). Similar but different is the shelfie, in that it is designed to show off bookshelves or other kinds of shelves, generally without a human subject in the image. Shelfies are often a form of bragging, not about your own face or body, but about your possessions and the beautifully curated surroundings in which you live. In addition to the original book collections, shelfies can feature anything from collections of treasured objects to photos, plants, craft items, beauty products, even household utensils – anything, in short, that can fit on a shelf and be made to look lovely in a photo that is then shared on social media: there are currently almost 2 million #shelfie posts on Instagram alone. You can even buy books on how to produce the perfect shelfie.
Origin
Shelfie is a blend of shelf and selfie. The term was coined in about 2013 by author Rick Riordan who tweeted the word.
